Ride A Fish: How to Ride a Fish (Mount, Travel, and Dismount)

How a fish becomes a ride in Ride A Fish, and how the observed mount and dismount controls work: equip, take the fish to the sea, confirm Dismount, get off.

Riding is the point of Ride A Fish, the Roblox game where your fish doubles as your transport: once a fish is equipped, taking it into the sea puts your avatar on its back, and the red Dismount control that appears is also how you get off. The short version: click your fish's hotbar card if your avatar isn't already holding it, take it to the sea, confirm the seated avatar and red Dismount control, and use Dismount when you want off. This guide walks through the full loop — selecting the fish, mounting at the sea, traveling, and dismounting — using the clicks and on-screen labels captured in recorded PC gameplay.

Prepare and select a rideable fish

A rideable fish starts from one of two documented places.

The fish is already in the bottom hotbar, not yet equipped. Click its card once to equip it — the recorded tutorial tooltip reads "Klik ikan untuk melengkapinya," meaning "Click the fish to equip it." If the slot is already selected and your avatar is holding the fish, skip the extra click and go straight to the sea.

The fish is still in your aquarium. Return to your own aquarium; the fish panel appears on the right near your yellow aquarium. Find the intended fish by name on its card, then click the red Unequip button below the card (next to the green Feed button). A transfer notification names the fish and the aquarium count drops — in a recorded example from 4/5 to 3/5 — because Unequip moves the fish into your inventory; it does not delete it. Open the backpack beside the hotbar (it opens SEMUA ITEM, "All items," with a fish category), select the fish's card, and it appears in a hotbar slot with a green outline while your avatar holds it.

Two checks before you head for the water:

  • Newly hatched fish are shown arriving in the aquarium, so confirm where your fish actually is before hunting for it in the hotbar.
  • If the fish you expected is missing from the hotbar, reopen the backpack and check for the transfer message first. The fuller selection walkthrough is in the how to equip fish guide.

Mount and travel on the water

With the fish equipped, take it to the sea — the in-game tutorial's instruction is to bring your fish to the sea and collect eggs. In the recorded PC tutorial, the player clicks to equip at around 1:27, is told to take the fish to the sea at 1:28–1:30, and by 1:44 the avatar is seated on the fish with the Dismount control on screen.

You know the mount worked when all three are true:

  1. Your avatar is visibly seated on the fish.
  2. The red Dismount control is showing.
  3. The ride you're on is the fish you selected.

Riding also changes how you move: in one recorded session, the player only stopped drowning once mounted — "Turns out we really have to ride a fish to swim" — and then used the fish to dive for underwater eggs. If that's your goal next, see how to find eggs.

One thing the recordings don't settle is the exact trigger that turns a held fish into a ride. The tutorial shows no separate Ride button, and one video's narration claims jumping into the sea mounts the fish automatically — that auto-mount behavior is unconfirmed. Don't rely on it: equip the fish, enter the water, and check for the seated avatar and Dismount control before setting off on any long trip.

Video walkthrough: Watch the first-riding tutorial and the following mounted state. The player starts at 1:27 in the original recording.

Dismount and switch actions

While riding, the red Dismount control is the action that takes you off the fish. It's worth separating it from the two look-alike aquarium buttons:

ControlWhere you see itWhat it does
Dismount (red)On screen only while ridingTakes your avatar off the fish
Unequip — the red "Lepaskan Perlengkapan" buttonAquarium panel, under a fish cardMoves that fish from the aquarium into your inventory
Feed (green)Aquarium panel, beside UnequipFeeds the fish; unrelated to riding

The exact keybind behind the Dismount label isn't documented — only the labeled on-screen control is confirmed — so use the button as displayed rather than assuming a key.

Switching to a different fish repeats the same state ladder: get the fish you want into the hotbar and held (Unequip → backpack → select the card, as above), then take it to the sea. One recorded player chose a pipefish over their milkfish this way and found the pipefish faster — a single-session comparison, not a confirmed speed rule.

Control prompts and platform caveats

Everything above comes from recorded PC gameplay in which the interface showed partly Indonesian labels plus PC-style E interaction prompts; the names below translate what was on screen.

What these recordings do not verify — so check your own device and session before relying on it: touch and mobile control mapping, hotbar number-key controls (a slot showing a number doesn't prove a keybind), and any auto-mount or separate Ride button. If an update changes the riding UI, re-check the prompts before your next dive.
